Description
What is Mirvaso® Gel?
Mirvaso® Gel is a prescription-only treatment used to reduce persistent facial redness (erythema) associated with rosacea. It contains the active ingredient brimonidine, which works by narrowing the small blood vessels in the skin to temporarily reduce redness.
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that commonly affects the face, causing persistent redness, flushing and, in some people, spots and visible blood vessels. Mirvaso® Gel is specifically designed to treat the facial redness associated with rosacea and is not intended to treat the spots or pimples that can also occur with the condition.
At The Kingston Pharmacy, Mirvaso® Gel is supplied as part of our clinician-led rosacea treatment service following a suitability assessment by our clinicians.
Available Strengths
Mirvaso® Gel contains:
- Brimonidine 0.33% w/w gel
The treatment is supplied as a topical gel for application to the face.
How Does Mirvaso® Gel Work?
Mirvaso® Gel contains brimonidine, which works by temporarily narrowing the small blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
In people with rosacea, these blood vessels can remain widened, contributing to persistent facial redness. By reducing the diameter of these blood vessels, Mirvaso® Gel helps lessen visible redness and improve the appearance of the skin.
The effects usually begin within a few hours of application and may last for up to 12 hours.
Treatment may help to:
- Reduce persistent facial redness
- Improve the appearance of rosacea-affected skin
- Help manage daily symptoms of rosacea
- Improve confidence and wellbeing
- Provide temporary control of facial erythema
For best results, treatment should be used exactly as prescribed by your clinician.
Who May Be Suitable for Mirvaso® Gel?
You may be suitable for treatment if you:
- Are aged 18 years or over
- Have persistent facial redness caused by rosacea
- Have been diagnosed with rosacea or have symptoms consistent with the condition
- Are looking to reduce visible facial redness
- Meet the prescribing criteria following clinical assessment
All patients must complete a clinical assessment before treatment can be prescribed.
How to Use Mirvaso® Gel
Mirvaso® Gel should be applied once daily to clean, dry skin exactly as directed by your clinician.
Apply a small amount of gel evenly across the forehead, chin, nose and each cheek, taking care to avoid the eyes, lips and inside the nose.
Wash your hands after application.
Avoid applying the gel to irritated skin, open wounds or broken skin.
Always follow the instructions provided by your clinician and use the medication exactly as prescribed.
