Shingrix is a vaccine used to protect against shingles, a painful skin rash caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (the virus that causes chickenpox). Shingles can lead to long-lasting nerve pain known as post-herpetic neuralgia.

The vaccine is recommended for adults aged 50 years and over, and for younger adults with an increased risk due to certain medical conditions or a weakened immune system.

Vaccination course

  • 2-dose course

  • Dose 1: Day 0

  • Dose 2: 2–6 months after dose 1

Both doses are required to complete the course and achieve full protection.

Booster doses

  • No routine booster is currently recommended after completing the 2-dose course
