What is an NHS Health Check?
The NHS Health Check is a free health assessment for people aged 40–74.
It looks at your overall health and helps identify your risk of conditions such as:
Heart disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Kidney disease
You’ll receive clear results, personalised advice, and support to help you stay well.

Common Questions
You may be eligible if you:
Are aged 40–74
Registered with Kingston GP
Do not already have:
heart disease
diabetes
chronic kidney disease
high blood pressure
previous stroke/TIA
Your appointment takes around 20 minutes and is carried out in a private consultation room. We will:
Ask a few questions about your health and lifestyle
Measure your blood pressure, height, and weight
Take a small finger-prick blood sample
Check your cholesterol levels
Calculate your cardiovascular risk score
Where appropriate, we may also check your blood sugar levels (HbA1c).
At the end of your appointment, you will receive:
A clear explanation of your results
Your personal risk score for heart disease and stroke
Advice tailored to you
Support with lifestyle changes if needed
Referral to your GP or local services if appropriate
Everything is explained in a simple and supportive way
You can eat and drink as normal prior to your appointment
If anything needs further review, we’ll guide you on the next steps.

Yes if you’re eligible, the check is fully funded by the NHS and there is no cost to you.

The check helps you understand your current health and what steps you can take to stay healthy.
A Health MOT can identify signs that may suggest:

Additional testing by your GP may sometimes be required to confirm a diagnosis.
Yes. Many conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol can develop silently without symptoms. NHS Health Checks are designed to identify risk early.
A QRISK score estimates your chance of developing cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years based on factors such as:
Age
Blood pressure
Cholesterol
Smoking status
Weight
Family history
